Strong macrobenthic community differentiation among sub-Arctic deep fjords on small spatial scales

چکیده
Fjords play an important role in carbon cycling and sequestration, but the burial of organic matter sediments strongly depends on composition macrobenthic communities. We studied three deep, sub-Arctic fjords located northern Norway to assess community differentiation neighbouring underlying environmental drivers. The have relatively deep depositional basins (370–570 m), they differ sill depth water exchange. In all studied, silty were characterised by mostly marine origin. found that each basin was inhabited a distinct benthic community, with pronounced differences total abundance, biomass species diversity. Only one fjord (Skjerstadfjord), shallow sill, slight mouth-to-head pattern found. strong macrobenthos among different seems not be directly associated drivers such as input, masses or depth.

Variation among natural isolates of Neurospora on small spatial scales.
Although species of Neurospora are among the most studied model organisms in genetics and biochemistry, basic questions remain with respect to their ecology and population biology. In this study, we sought to clarify relationships among individuals over a small spatial scale, toward assessing both local variation and mode of colonization. Isolates of Neurospora were collected after fires in the...
متن کاملPopulation genetic structure of Arctic charr, Salvelinus alpinus from northwest Europe on large and small spatial scales.
To examine the population genetic structure of lake-resident Arctic charr, Salvelinus alpinus from northwest Europe on multiple spatial scales, 2367 individuals from 43 lakes located in three geographical regions (Iceland, the British Isles and Scandinavia) were genotyped at six microsatellite loci. On a large scale, data provided little evidence to support clustering of populations according t...
متن کاملSpectroastrometry: a new approach to astronomy on small spatial scales
The technique of spectroastrometry (measuring the wavelength dependence of the position of an object) provides a means of studying the spatial structure of astronomical sources on scales much smaller than the seeing disk size or the diiraction limit. Despite successful demonstrations in the past, the method does not seem to be widely known. This paper describes techniques used at the Anglo-Aust...
متن کاملThe Observed properties of Dark Matter on small spatial scales
There has long been evidence that low-mass galaxies are systematically larger in radius, of lower central stellar mass density, and of lower central phase-space density, than are star clusters of the same luminosity. The larger radius, at a comparable value of central velocity dispersion, implies a larger mass at similar luminosity, and hence significant dark matter, in dwarf galaxies, compared...
متن کاملObserved Properties of Dark Matter on Small Spatial Scales
The nature of dark matter is one of the outstanding questions of astrophysics. The internal motions of member stars reveal that the lowest luminosity galaxies in the Local Group are the most dark-matter dominated. New large datasets allow one to go further, and determine systematic properties of their dark matter haloes. We summarise recent results, emphasising the critical role of the dwarf sp...
